I think we’ve all had those moments where life feels a little overwhelming and suddenly changing our hair seems like the solution to all our problems.
New hair, new me, right?
There’s something funny but also very real about wanting to reinvent yourself when you’re going through something. Maybe you’re heartbroken, bored, having an identity crisis, or just trying to feel a little more in control of your life. Sometimes bleaching your hair is easier than dealing with whatever is actually going on.
This painting is a little bit about that. The impulsive decisions, the need for change, and the strange comfort of looking in the mirror and seeing someone just a little different.
And if you know a gay man who just bleached his hair, please proceed with caution and give him a hug. He’s going through it.
Or maybe he just wanted to be blonde. Who knows? Either way, I support him.
