Wearable art for anyone who tried to hide behind a mask, but was always meant to be seen.

Small Town Queer Kid is an artist designed queer art t shirt featuring original artwork by Michael K. Davenport. The piece comes from my own experience growing up queer in a small town and learning what it meant to become comfortable being fully myself.

There were old photos of me growing up. In one, I’m dressed in hunting gear. In another, I’m wearing my mom’s heels. I wanted to be just like my parents. But I was also always just… me.

In high school, my house was shot at. So was my best friend’s. We were both gay, but not out. It was a hate crime, even if we didn’t have the words for it yet.

I created Small Town Queer Kid for that brave little boy who didn’t yet know he would survive it all and grow into the strongest, most confident version of himself.

He’s still here. And I’m so damn proud of him.

It’s also for anyone who grew up feeling like they needed to disguise some part of themselves to fit in. Anyone who tried to hide behind a mask, even when there was no real way to hide who they were.

The original artwork is printed on a heavyweight, garment dyed Comfort Colors® t shirt with a relaxed unisex fit and soft, lived in feel. The front features Small Town Queer Kid, with Michael K. Davenport artist branding on the back.
